09/09/01-2001 Season Gets Underway
The 2001 NFL season is underway and there were some fantastic games to kick things off in week one. Get all the scores and highlights with these recaps of all the action!
09/08/01-Defense Will Decide the NFC East
If you're into high-flying atomic offenses that send wide receivers and running backs streaking all over the field, racking up astronomical yardage and scoring unprecedented point totals, then don't come to the NFC East. You won't see much of that here, but you will see some good defense!
09/07/01-The Pressure's Off the Redskins
The Redskins are not a team without talent, and could contend for a playoff spot if things go well for them. The key will be for quarterback Jeff George to stay healthy and play well. He also must learn to play within the new short-passing system that Schottenheimer has installed!
09/05/01-Eagles' Defense Ready to Roll
The Philadelphia Eagles lost starting running back Duce Staley to a serious foot injury early in the 2000 season. The loss shifted the focus of the offense almost fully on quarterback Donovan McNabb, and he responded by having an MVP-type season. The Eagles are confident a healthy Staley will keep opposing defenses honest, and make McNabb a much more dangerous weapon than the guy that was the offense for the Eagles in 2000.
09/04/01-Giants Set to Defend NFC Title
Although their season ended on a sour note with a loss to the Ravens in the Super Bowl last January, the New York Giants are the reigning NFC champions and early favorites to repeat in the NFC East.
09/03/01-Cowboys Positioning for the Future!
I don't think it's any secret that the Dallas Cowboys are going through a huge rebuilding project, and most likely they are going to be a bad team this year. They have committed themselves to a rookie starting at quarterback and 38 members of their roster are in their third season or less.
09/02/01-Cardinals Looking Up!
The Arizona Cardinals have been the weak sister of the NFC East for many years now, but not for much longer if Dave McGinnis has anything to say about it. The Cardinals are rebuilding with youth, and their intense head coach seems to have them on the right track.
09/01/01-It's the Pack, Not the Bucs!
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been annointed as the favorite to win the NFC Central this year. I say the Bucs will not be as devastating as advertised, and Brett Favre will bring the Packers back to the top!
08/31/01-Bucs Have All the Pieces in Place
Over the last few seasons, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have survived on a basic formula for success in the NFL... a solid running game, a great defense, and a dependable field goal kicker. Now they have a veteran quarterback to add to that formula!
08/30/01-Vikings All Offense
It seems every year the Minnesota Vikings are given the kiss of death by the media, but each season, Head Coach Dennis Green seems to find a way to get the most out of his team.
08/29/01-Favre Still the Man in Green Bay
Anytime you possess a quarterback with Brett Favre's abilities, you have a chance to win. He is healthy this year, which makes him that much better, and he most likely will abuse the rest of the NFC Central Division again.
08/26/01-Millen Molding Lions
Matt Millen was stolen from the broadcast booth and named General Manager during the off-season, and brought along with him new head coach Marty Mornhinweg. The Lions fans are hoping they will turn the team into consistent winners.
08/25/01-Bears Begin With Matthews
Dick Jauron is in his third year as the Chicago Bears' head coach, and so far has failed to bring much improvement to a team that has struggled since the early nineties. The hiring of new General Manager Jerry Angelo puts Jauron on the hot seat early, and speculation around Chicago says anything less than a playoff appearance will be his demise.
08/24/01-Saints, Rams battle for Western Crown
On one side you have the mighty offensive juggernaut of the St. Louis Rams. On the other side stands the upstart New Orleans Saints, who are trying to prove last year was not a fluke. Somewhere down below, you have the other three division rivals just hoping to catch the league by surprise.
08/23/01-Defense is the Key for Rams
Last season, the St. Louis Rams' offense was slowed by injuries to key players, but the real problems were on the defensive side of the ball. Kurt Warner and company continued to put up unbelievable statistics, but the defense gave up some mind-boggling numbers themselves.
08/22/01-49ers Younger and Better
Last season, the San Francisco 49ers showed signs of climbing out of their salary cap-inflicted demise, but they struggled on a consistent basis on the defensive side of the ball. With a younger cast, they may be better this year.
08/17/01-Saints in the Super Bowl?
The New Orleans Saints are now among the elite teams in the NFL. Aaron Brooks continues to look very poised under pressure, and he makes a lot of big plays. If Ricky Williams stays healthy this year, this offense could be down right explosive.
08/16/01-Carolina Starting Over
The Carolina Panthers are on a youth movement that should help them build a solid foundation for the future. Unfortunately, the immediate future doesn't look so bright. Check out my prediction and thoughts on the Panthers this year.
08/15/01-Michael Vick Era Begins in Atlanta
The Atlanta Falcons made a bold move by trading up in the draft to acquire quarterback Michael Vick with the first pick. While he appears to have all the tools to be a franchise quarterback, he is still very raw and will probably not see significant playing time this season.
08/10/01-Colts Favorites, Jets Could Surprise
The Indianapolis Colts look like the clear cut favorite in the AFC East, but the New York Jets may give them a run for their money if things go right. Check out all my thoughts and predictions on the AFC East.
08/08/01-Jets Move to West Coast
New York is switching to a West Coast-oriented offense and quarterback Vinny Testeverde has looked very comfortable during off-season workouts. The short passing game should help him cut back on the 25 interceptions he threw last season.
08/07/01-Patriots Add Depth, Lack Talent
During the off-season, the New England Patriots were busy bringing in new players to add depth to a squad that suffered through the 2000 season, but the salary cap-challenged Patriots were forced to settle for second-tier free agents instead of the impact players they needed.
08/06/01-Dolphins Looking for a Spark
After putting together a successful 2000 season by pulling out a lot of tight victories, the Miami Dolphins are hoping to show a little more spark on offense. The defense is certainly the strength of the team, but gone is Trace Armstrong and his 16 sacks.
08/05/01-Colts' Offense Ready to Explode
The past two seasons, the Indianapolis Colts have put together solid regular-season records, only to be knocked out in the early stages of the playoffs. A lack of defense can be blamed for the Colts' early exits in recent years, but they are hoping to reverse that trend this season.
08/02/01-Bills Count on Johnson to Stay Healthy
The Buffalo Bills had a huge turnover on their roster during the off-season, but possibly the biggest loss was 38-year old quarterback Doug Flutie. Check out the Bills' chances without the veteran backup on the sidelines.
08/01/01-Vikings' All-Pro Korey Stringer Dies
Tragedy struck the Minnesota Vikings Wednesday morning when All-Pro offensive tackle Korey Stringer died due to complications brought on by heat stroke. Here are details of the tragic event, along with a statement from the Vikings' organization.
07/29/01-Defenses Will Dominate in AFC Central
The AFC Central may have the largest gap of any division between its best and worst teams. They have the defending Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens, and they also have the Cincinnati Bengals. Check out my thought on who will come out on top of the division.
07/28/01-Ravens Think Offensive Thoughts
The defending Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens aren't sitting back waiting for the rest of the NFL to catch up with them. Elvis is in and Trent is out, and the rest of the NFL is still trying to figure out how to move the ball on their defense.
07/27/01-Can Bengals Escape AFC Central Basement?
Cincinnati has won just 11 games over the last three seasons and has not had a winning season in ten years. And what's worse is the Bengals don't look as though they are going to improve much anytime soon. Check out my thoughts on the Bengals chances of getting out of the NFL basement.
07/25/01-Browns Still Need Weapons on Offense
After an injury plagued season in 2000, the Cleveland Browns continued their building process by beefing up their offensive line, adding a couple targets for quarterback Tim Couch to throw to, and patching up a porous run defense. Just how far will these changes take them?
07/24/01-Jaguars Refresh Their roster
The Jacksonville Jaguars head into the 2001 campaign with one of the more potent offenses in the league, but will the line be able to pull their weight. Get the scoop on the Jags' and their chances this year!
07/23/01-Will Pittsburgh Slash or Burn?
The Steelers missed the playoffs each of the last three seasons, but they may break that streak this year if Kordell avoids self-destruction.
07/21/01-Titans to Put "Kearse" on AFC Central
Kevin Carter on the same defensive line as Jevon Kearse should strike fear into opposing offenses, but only if the Titans can keep Carter motivated. Check out all the Titans' off-season moves and their prospects for the upcoming season.

07/18/01-Will Hasselbeck Soar with Seahawks?
The Seattle Seahawks were one of the most active teams in the off-season, dipping into the free-agent market early and often. Check out all the roster improvements and my thoughts on their chances in the west.
07/17/01-Vermeil Era Begins in Kansas City
The Chiefs lured Dick Vermeil out of retirement and traded their first round draft pick to the Rams for quarterback Trent Green. Your Guide checks out all the new faces and the Chiefs' chances in the West.
07/16/01-Broncos an Early Favorite
After an off-season overhaul of their defense, the Denver Broncos enter the 2001 season as one of the favorites in the AFC West and a serious Super Bowl XXXVI contender.
07/15/01-Can Raiders Repeat in the West?
The Oakland Raiders were knocked out of last year's playoffs by a Tony Siragusa flop on quarterback Rich Gannon, but they're back and ready for a serious run at Super Bowl XXXVI.
07/06/01-Off Topic with the 9th Man
Can you name the only league with a "Fans' Bill of Rights"? Or how about the league that "Believes that every fan is entitled to a total entertainment experience at an affordable cost"? If that type of league interests you, then here it is!
07/01/01-Thunder Strikes Dragons
The Barcelona Dragons defeated the Berlin Thunder twice during the regular season this year, but the Thunder turned the tables on the Dragons Saturday, winning 24-17 to capture their first World Bowl championship.
06/18/01-Bears Blow it Again
With the appointing of Jerry Angelo as General Manager, speculation around Chicago has Dick Jauron hittin' the pavement if the club doesn't make the playoffs this year. This may also be Cade McNown's final chance to make it with the Bears.
